The Next Generation

Judges 2:10-11

[10] After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. [11] Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.

Psalm 78:6-8

[6] so the next generation would know them,

    even the children yet to be born,

    and they in turn would tell their children.

[7] Then they would put their trust in God

    and would not forget his deeds

    but would keep his commands.

[8] They would not be like their ancestors—

    a stubborn and rebellious generation,

whose hearts were not loyal to God,

    whose spirits were not faithful to him.

Philippians 2:14–16

[14] Do everything without grumbling or arguing, [15] so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky [16] as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

may your mercy come quickly to meet us,

[19] The Lord saw this and rejected them

    because he was angered by his sons and daughters.

[20] “I will hide my face from them,” he said,

    “and see what their end will be;

for they are a perverse generation,

    children who are unfaithful.

[21] They made me jealous by what is no god

    and angered me with their worthless idols.

I will make them envious by those who are not a people;

    I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.

[8] “Ask the former generation

    and find out what their ancestors learned,

[9] for we were born only yesterday and know nothing,

    and our days on earth are but a shadow.
