On Fear and Anxiety
[4] Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread;
they never call on God.
[5] But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread.
God scattered the bones of those who attacked you;
you put them to shame, for God despised them.
-------
[12] “Do not call conspiracy
everything this people calls a conspiracy;
do not fear what they fear,
and do not dread it.
[13] The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
he is the one you are to fear,
he is the one you are to dread.
-------
[15] In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,
[16] he may speak in their ears
and terrify them with warnings,
[17] to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,
[18] to preserve them from the pit,
their lives from perishing by the sword.
-------
[28] The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
-------
[25] Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up.
-------
[65] Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. [66] You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. [67] In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening!” and in the evening, “If only it were morning!”—because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see.
