Teachings: On Music
Hello there,
The descendants of Cain are depicted as using music as a
means of temptation and moral decline. In the narrative, after Cain settled in
the land of dark soil, his children began to indulge in various forms of music
that led others astray. Specifically, it is noted that "ravishing
music" and "strong drink" were prevalent among the sons of Cain,
enticing the children of Seth, who looked on with longing eyes. This resulted
in a revolt against wise counsel, leading them into a "valley of
iniquity" from which they could not return to their previous state of
righteousness.
One notable figure among Cain's descendants is Genun, the
son of Lamech. He is described as being influenced by Satan from a young age,
which led him to create various musical instruments such as trumpets, horns,
string instruments, cymbals, and harps. Genun played these instruments
constantly, suggesting that the music was not only pervasive but also a tool
for seduction and moral corruption.
In summary, the descendants of Cain used music as a powerful
means of temptation, drawing others into iniquity and away from virtuous living
through their alluring sounds and revelry.
