Sin 101

Romans 5:20-21

[20] The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, [21] so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Matthew 6:14-15

[14] For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15] But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

----------------

1 Kings 8:46-49

[46] “When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to their enemies, who take them captive to their own lands, far away or near; [47] and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors and say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’; [48] and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray to you toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name; [49] then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.

----------------

Matthew 9:10-12

[10] While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. [11] When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

[12] On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

----------------

Matthew 18:15-17

[15] “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. [16] But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ [17] If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

----------------

Mark 3:28-30

[28] Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, [29] but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

[30] He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

----------------

Ecclesiastes 7:20

[20] Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous,

no one who does what is right and never sins.

----------------

Luke 17:3-4

[3] So watch yourselves.

“If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. [4] Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

----------------

Wisdom 11:22-24

[22] Because the whole world before you is like a speck that tips the scales,

and like a drop of morning dew that falls on the ground.

[23] But you are merciful to all, for you can do all things,

and you overlook people’s sins, so that they may repent.

[24] For you love all things that exist,

and detest none of the things that you have made,

for you would not have made anything if you had hated it.

----------------

Romans 5:12-13

[12] Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned— [13] sin was indeed in the world before the law, but sin is not reckoned when there is no law.

----------------

Isaiah 1:28

[28] But rebels and sinners will both be broken,

and those who forsake the Lord will perish.

----------------

Jeremiah 13:22

[22] And if you ask yourself,

“Why has this happened to me?”—

it is because of your many sins

that your skirts have been torn off

    and your body mistreated.

----------------

Jeremiah 30:12-15

[12] “This is what the Lord says:

“‘Your wound is incurable,

    your injury beyond healing.

[13] There is no one to plead your cause,

    no remedy for your sore,

    no healing for you.

[14] All your allies have forgotten you;

    they care nothing for you.

I have struck you as an enemy would

and punished you as would the cruel,

because your guilt is so great

    and your sins so many.

[15] Why do you cry out over your wound,

your pain that has no cure?

Because of your great guilt and many sins

I have done these things to you.

----------------

Hebrews 10:26-27

[26] If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, [27] but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

----------------

James 5:19-20

[19] My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, [20] remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

----------------

1 John 5:16-18

[16] If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. [17] All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

[18] We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.

----------------

Proverbs 27:19

[19] As water reflects the face,

so one’s life reflects the heart.

----------------

Proverbs 28:13

[13] Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,

but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

----------------

Proverbs 28:17

[17] Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder

    will seek refuge in the grave;

let no one hold them back.

----------------

1 John 3:4

[4] Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

----------------

1 John 5:16-21

[16] If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. [17] All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

[18] We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. [19] We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. [20] We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

[21] Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

----------------

Jude 1:5-7

[5] Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. [6] And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. [7] In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
